Contains correspondence to and from F.G. Louis Wiesenhavern covering the period of his emigration to the U.S., living in the U.S., including San Francisco, Calif. and Nauvoo, Ill., and his trip to Hannover to visit family. Correspondence discusses home and travel, business as a barber and merchant including importing from Germany, 4th of July celebrations in Calif., local epidemics and German doctors in Calif. and expenses. Also includes family and accounting documents.

Note:

Friedrick Gustav Ludwig Wiesenhavern was born in Hildesheim, Hannover, Germany. He immigrated to New Orleans in 1850 and moved to Calif. in 1853. He moved to Nauvoo, Ill. in 1854 where he became a U.S. citizen in 1858. Around 1860 he married Anna Maria Ritter and had five children. They moved to San Francisco, Calif. sometime after 1872 where Louis opened a barbershop. Louis returned to Hanover in 1875 to visit his family and to bring back goods to sell.
